Week 4 Newsletter: From Street Games Week to Pirate Week

Week 4 Special Events Recap:

Stickball.JPGThis week Crestwood went back in time with Street Games Week!!! Our celebration of classic games such as Stickball, Punchball, Kickball, Spud, Hopscotch, Double Dutch and Hit the Penny (that were very popular and made famous by city kids during the 50's and 60's) was a big hit. Street games were always about fun, friendship, imagination and creativity, where kids utilized the simplest of Hula_Hoops.JPGthings to create some of the most exciting, memorable, and one of a kind games. While every group enjoyed the different street games introduced by Crestwood, one really special group took Street Games Week to a whole new level by creating their own game. Utilizing their love for sports, a simple Spaldeen ball, and a mountain of creative ideas, the Coyotes created their own handball game at softball. It was truly amazing watching them run the bases while playing a game they made up.

RockPaperScissors.JPGOn Monday, Street Game Week began with the easy to play and simple to learn game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. This was a great game where kids learned a new, fair way to choose teams, have fun during passing between periods and settle differences. It was such a great success that kids were using it to decide who goes first on the Tarzan Rope, the Obstacle Course or at other specialty areas throughout the week, even at Carnival!!!  When Tuesday rolled around, the kids were introduced to a newer street-type game that became popular during the 80s and 90s, Ultimate Frisbee. Along with learning how to throw a frisbee and play Ultimate Frisbee, the kids also learned the fun of playing Frisbee Golf. Finally, the biggest event of the summer came on Wednesday... Carnival!!!

Carnival was a gigantic success as the kids enjoyed close to forty carnival booths, four giant inflatable obstacle courses and slides, two cool mechanical rides, tasty cotton candy, and the always popular dunk tank.Carnival_4.JPG

Carnival Day was enhanced with the always popular Crazy Hair Day, where it seemed like there was an endless sea of zany mohawks and silly pigtails throughout the grounds.

Then on Thursday, the pre-schoolers and kindergartners got a chance to show off their art skills as they used chalk to create giant masterpieces of driveway art all around the circle in front of the Main Office.  Street Games Week concludes tomorrow as Crestwood keeps it old school and brings back classic field day races for Friday's Special Event.
